How to change your ugly kitchen cabinets in less than four days
You could have the loveliest, cleanest home, and STILL be embarrassed to bring people over because your kitchen cabinets look like you’re living in the past!
While your benchtop/countertop may be the hero of your food preparation, your kitchen cabinets take up a lot of space in your kitchen and really help to add or detract from the look of the entire room.
We come across many homes from the 60s – 90s who have cream, beige or a blue-grey cabinets, and their dullness really does bring the whole room down. If you look at your kitchen and it feels flat, then these resurfacing tips could be the answer you’re looking for.
1. Resurface with a white or dark grey coat
White is a great colour for cabinets because it reflects light. Light bouncing off the surfaces of your cabinets can help your kitchen look not only newer, but bigger! Dark grey is also popular as a way to add a sense of ‘sophisticated boldness’ to a contemporary home. Edge Resurfacing removes the whole cabinet door to spray both inside and out.
2. Add edging strips
Wear and tear is common for cabinet doors given many of them are open and shut multiple times every single day. Replacing peeling or chipped edging with Melamine or Laminate edging can help spruce up cupboards in next to no time. You can just use an iron to ensure it sticks to the surface.
3. Change the handles
It may seem like such a small detail, but handles can have a great impact on updating your cabinets. Even if you did nothing else on this list, a quick DIY job and half an hour is all you really need to go from those round wooden handles to a solid chrome handle. Just be sure to use the same hole as the original one, otherwise you’re giving yourself more work to do filling in the visible holes.
