Should you resurface your kitchen cabinets or buy new?
If the time has come to update your kitchen, you might be considering whether you should resurface or buy new – that is – to simply update what already exists, or if it would be better to smash the whole thing out and start again.
In our many years of helping customers revitalise their kitchens with respraying (resurfacing), we’ve encountered this situation many times.
Our advice is to consider these three things:
1. Resurfacing is best for a new look
When you love the size and layout of your kitchen but dislike how it looks, resurfacing is the best way to go.
Not only is resurfacing far more cost effective than replacing your cabinets and benchtops (up to 75% less than buying new), it’s also far quicker at about a 5-day turnaround to get the end result!
If your kitchen has good ‘bones’, then resurfacing will give it a new look that will make a strong impression on your guests.
Most surfaces can be resprayed – including timber, laminate, and tile – and the beautiful finishes we have achieved speak for themselves. Check out our gallery for inspiration!
2. Depending on the level of damage, you could resurface or buy new…
If your kitchen cabinets and surfaces have wear and tear or damage, it might be best to buy new. However you don’t have to necessarily jump to this expense straight away.
With some minor repairs, dented or water damaged kitchen cabinets and benches can be resurfaced, so speak to us if you have some imperfections – we will asses to see if we have a good foundation to work with and advise the best course of action.
3. Unhappy with your kitchen’s layout?
Maybe the cabinets are in the wrong spot, or you don’t like the height of the island bench, or maybe you find the kitchen’s design isn’t functional.
The obvious solution is to redo the kitchen as our team can’t make structural changes – but you might be able to split the difference and save the original cabinet doors and surfaces and resurface them.
